“Time for Radio to step up on HD Radio”?

That’s the headline from today’s Inside Radio – but the question mark is mine.

Not because I doubt the importance of the technology, but because I doubt we as an industry have thought through the listener benefits and reasons why people will enthusiastically part with hard-earned cash in order to purchase a new radio that brings them…the same stations they get now – plus unplanned others that are already redundant to what you can get online or via Satellite.

The Radio industry had better think this through good and hard.

And to date, nobody has asked MY opinion.

Recently, for example, I saw the advance promotion for a new HD Table Radio.

“Where’s the mp3 player?” I asked.

“It doesn’t have one” I was told.

That’s when I started laughing.
