If the use of a DVR is shown to increase the user’s TV viewership – by essentially time-shifting programs and making them available at more convenient times – then doesn’t it stand to reason that radio listening might likewise benefit by time-shifting?
And one of the most common time-shifting tools now available to us is podcasting.
Note that virtually all the new satellite portables come with the ability to record and play back programming. In fact, for the newest Sirius portable, once you remove it from its dock it’s ONLY a playback unit, not a receiver!
Of course, the key element in this is having programming content compelling enough to be worth playing back again and again.
And the other key element is being given Arbitron credit for this listening (a topic I’ll write about after Thanksgiving).
