One of the regrettably common positioning liners on the air at many AC stations is this one:
“The station everyone at work can agree on.”
On the surface, this paints the picture of a station which is the best option for all.
But if you think about it a little harder, it suggests that this is a radio station that isn’t loved enough by anybody to fight for and isn’t hated enough by anybody to reject. It suggests, in fact, that this is not the best station for all. In fact, it’s the best station for no one.
As everyone knows, that which everyone agrees on is agreed to because everyone is compromising.
And nobody ever feels passionate about a compromise.
