The Art Goes Out of the Album

Great article from USA TODAY about the consequences of the digital revolution for albums.

Now that folks can download and create their own compilations so easily, why buy an album of songs when all you really want is the hit? The consequences will rock the music biz, since demand for long-form product is bound to diminish, perhaps to extinction.

That’ll teach ’em for bundling 60 minutes of mediocre songs on an album with 10 minutes of good ones.
