Steve Rivers on Radio’s Future

mramsey1

You simply must read the great Q&A with former Infinity Broadcasting head programmer Steve Rivers at MusicBiz.com.

He hits a lot of notes readers of this blog will find familiar. Everyone who cares about radio’s future should read this article and take its wisdom to heart.

Among Steve’s buzz quotes: “Nobody in terrestrial radio controls the transmitters anymore.”

By the way…

Steve was questioned, among other things, about how HD radio be used effectively without damaging the ratings of the main frequencies. I’ve got to tell you, the very fact that this issue provokes fear is a big red flag on the whole exercise. It will be technically impossible to triple the volume of available stations without cannibalizing existing ones.

Once upon a time we used to predict every station would eventually have a 4-share. In an HD world you can make that a .4 instead.
