How did I miss this tidbit?
Sirius Satellite Radio has signed an agreement with its arch-rival XM Radio to provide a standard that will let customers buy one radio capable of receiving both SIRIUS’ and XM Radio’s services.
From the looks of the details, this was a deal signed last year.
A communal radio would smooth out one of the major speed bumps for satellite – that the choice of radio and satellite service must be linked.
That means an easier satellite radio purchase (regardless of service chosen) and more satellite radio subscribers.
Of course, it also means a more appealing radio that doesn’t contain your station – now or ever.
Will the consumers be attracted to this? Assuming a wide enough variety of styles, the answer is a big YES.
