“Digital has been a bust”

From Pat Welsh, Pollack Media:

One of the most advanced digital markets in the world is the U.K., which has been up and running now for a couple of years. But the half dozen or so U.K. broadcasters that I spoke with unanimously felt that digital has been a bust. The reasons were varied but three things kept coming up: 1) Most people just aren’t going to want to replace their radios, other than the one they get in a new car 2) The radios are still too expensive and 3) Many listeners think that a digital radio is one with a digital display tuner. Even after a great deal of marketing, many didn’t understand the concept of a digital signal, let alone understand the benefits.
