Cuban Missive Crisis

I’m nuts about Mark Cuban.

And not only because he hates the RIAA. But that’s reason enough.

Mark makes some great points in this post, where he notes that, thanks to Yahoo’s new Music Unlimited service, the new marketvalue for all the music you can download in a month is 5 bucks!

Says Mark: “The RIAA can no longer claim that students who are downloading music are costing them thousands of dollars each. They can’t claim much of anything actually. In essence, Yahoo just turned possession of a controlled music substance into a misdemeanor. Payable by a $5 per month fine.”

Two points: First, if you’re not against the RIAA suing your listeners you’re not fighting for your listeners. Second, when unlimited downloads cost you $5 per month, that’s virtually “free.”

And “free”, you’ll remember, is one of the big “advantages” of Radio.
