From Inside Radio:
The guys from Big & Rich say it’s “an absolute travesty” that there’s no country radio in New York, L.A. or San Francisco. (They mention the former KZLA and the Bear by name.) Of course the FCC doesn’t get into formats. But it’s “consolidation” that takes the blame.
I would like to be the first to invite Big & Rich to buy a radio station in New York, LA, or San Francisco, since they evidently seem to think a Country format is such a wise investment and crowd-pleaser – relative to all other alternatives – in those markets.
Let’s see how long it takes them to assess the financials.
Let’s see how they feel when it’s their money at stake and not simply the vague kumbaya principle that says everybody should have everything everywhere just…because they should. And if they don’t it’s because “the man” is keeping them down.
Yes, there should be Country stations in every market. And yes, I should be King of the World.
But not necessarily in that order.
