What I Like about NASH FM

I'm not talking about the radio station (which is New York's newest Country station), I'm talking about the website. Yes, I know this is an "opening act" site and not the "final" one.  But in many ways this is a much better "final" site than whatever might be "final." Consider what it provides: A clean, clear representation of the brand and its benefit The opportunity to listen live one click away An email entry form to find out more about the brand and, in the process, to gather a permission asset of fan emails Key social media links While I could nitpick some of these … [Read more...]

What’s Radio’s Future? That’s the Wrong Question

What's going to happen to radio in the future? That's what everybody wants to know, and it's the wrong question. Here's a better one:  How do broadcasters leverage the relationships we have between our consumers and our clients mediated in our presence or, as I like to put it, our "sandbox"? Do our brands need a regularly updated website or a mobile app?  Again, the wrong questions. It's not about the fads you should follow, it's about what business you are in and how to maximize that business. What follows is a really good interview with me recorded just prior to my … [Read more...]

4 Ways to Improve Your Station’s Website

Here  are four key things that will instantly improve your station's website: Stuff that's compelling (no, I mean compelling) Bite-size content Content that's easy to share Track back to the platform And by "improve" I mean make it more relevant, more popular, more effective, and ultimately more profitable, directly or indirectly. 5 Questions to Dramatically Improve your Digital Platform

It's not a website, it's a platform. Or at least it should be. What's the difference between a website and a platform?  And how do you develop a strategy to build yours? Watch this video for five questions that will dramatically improve your platform strategy and help transform it from a digital "brochure" into a site that matters to the people who count most:  Your consumers. The Most Important Question you should ask about your Radio Brand’s Website

"What should I do with my website?" That's one of the most common questions broadcasters ask. And it's quickly followed by "Can you show me an example of one of my peers doing a really good job with their website?" There's nothing wrong with a point of reference - unless it substitutes for a digital strategy, as it almost always does. Look, digital is hard.  I know.  Especially when you're profitably selling spots yet still trying to rub two sticks together to build a digital platform. But it gets a lot harder when you dive in without asking what I think is the most important … [Read more...]

Get Rid of your Station’s Website

Okay, I have just about had it.  Really, I have. I was searching for a station online the other day and I encountered a website so appallingly bad I braced myself in case this URL triggered a rupture in the space/time continuum. Granted, lots of companies have bad websites, but this was B-A-D, folks. Now don’t tell me “well, they are probably short-staffed and can’t devote the attention to their site that it requires.”  That’s just B.S.  If you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen.  And if you can’t develop a website that solves a problem for your brand, your consumers, and … [Read more...]
