Secret Project Revealed on March 10

For several months I have been working with a talented collaborator and a major publisher on a secret project. And on Friday, March 10, you'll see - and hear - about it first. This project is built for audiences, not for broadcasters. But it's very special, and I think you'll like it. It's a unique project - in many ways the first of its kind, and I'm extraordinarily proud of it. Check back on Friday, March 10, won't you? … [Read more...]

And Radio’s Secret Power is…

Recently one of my radio clients explained how his 20-year-old daughter uses radio: “She chases her favorite songs around the dial,” he said. For her, every station button is another chance at hitting the proverbial jackpot. Either I land on a song I love or I don’t. And if I don’t, I move to the next button. The Secret of Howard Stern

Bob Lefsetz penned a great piece in praise of Howard Stern recently. I recommend you check it out. It's great not simply because he hits all the right notes about Howard, although he does. It's great because Bob deciphers the real secret to Howard's success, a secret available to anyone who considers themselves "talent." Says Lefsetz: Unless you have the confidence to woodshed in the wilderness until you're appealing to the masses you'll never become a legend. And this: When everybody went BuzzFeed, boiling it down to the nugget for the supposedly short attention span public, … [Read more...]

I’m Going to Stage a Secret Radio Meeting

...much like the one being staged in "secret" at the NAB Radio Show right now. And like that meeting, the purpose of mine is to plot radio's digital future. Because, as we all know, the future of any industry is best mapped out by its leading executives, locked together in a private room with nary a consumer in sight.  Consumers will do what they're told, after all.  The control is all ours! This is how General Motors did it for years! I will make sure only to invite folks who see eye-to-eye with me on the main issues of the day, as I see them.  Troublemakers need not apply. Also … [Read more...]
