Why I like SiriusXM’s new Mobile App

It hasn't gotten a ton of attention, but SiriusXM's recently revised mobile apps add some functionality which I think makes a dramatic difference in the quality of the user experience and also transforms the meaning of satellite radio online using the familiar metaphor of the DVR (not new for the conventional satellite radios, but certainly new for their streaming versions). TV is going Social and Interactive; What about Radio?

It is estimated that 23% of American consumers will own a tablet by 2012 (up from an estimated 12% now).  Tablets are built to be interactive media devices (among other things) and their penetration will only promote the transformation of TV into an interactive experience, including interactive advertising. You can feel the passion ooze from this Apple video which celebrates the makers of apps. And interestingly, several of the examples shown here are media (a.k.a. content) companies.  And a couple of them are in the radio space. That would be your space.
