I just got a note from a broadcaster saying the NAB is sending out emails plugging a free iPod Mini giveaway for attendees of the Spring National Association of Broadcasters convention.
As I’ve written before in this blog and via my weekly emails, an iPod is custom radio. It is a replacement for, not a supplement to, the radio because it’s used to fulfill the same function in the same way: To play the hits – except it’s perfectly adapted to the tastes of its owner (unlike radio). Thus, it is the same – but better.
In other words, the NAB giving away an iPod is like a buggy manufacturer giving away a Model T.
Smart move, NAB.
