From Joel Burke at KYGO:
As most of you know, I’m a huge fan of legendary Coach John Wooden. In fact, I’ve had privilege to personally get to know Coach over the past couple of years. Coach Wooden, who is 94, has never been one to sit back and admire his work. In fact, he is now developing the John and Nell Wooden Legacy Center. I have been asked by Andy Hill, who co-wrote a book with Coach and played at UCLA, to help create awareness for this new foundation and raise funds from the radio industry. This is opportunity for me to give something back to Coach Wooden and the impact he has had on my life. You can get an overview of the WLC here. Donations are tax deductible, and I really hope you’ll choose to help us. Every youngster who plays sports deserves a teacher-coach like John Wooden, but if we don’t do something to make that happen, kids will be stuck with coaches who yell and scream, threaten and intimidate, and focus on winning at all costs. In a society where values and ethics are hard to come by, this is opportunity turn the tide. Coach Wooden was lukewarm to the idea at first, because he rightly felt that he did not need any more honors. But he now understands that this is not about honoring him, but USING his name and example as a beacon for future generations of coaches. We must not only preserve Coach’s teachings and ideals, but actively motivate coaches to follow this path. If you have any questions, feel free to call me. Also, Andy Hill and NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton, who serve on the board are available to speak on the phone to you or speak to your group. Thanks in advance for your consideration!
