Making Sense of the Auto Dashboard

It seems to me that radio is in a bit of paralysis by analysis when it comes to the "connected" auto dashboard. As we get lost in the details of what change is coming and how fast, we're not focused nearly enough on what to do about it, given that such a large proportion of radio listening emanates from that very dashboard. We're stuck in the theater of the moment. Consider the reality of the situation: The complexity of the new dashboard is overwhelming many consumers. “Live and Local”? I Don’t Think So

It has been suggested that the new story for radio should be one of the oldest stories for radio: "We're live and local." This strikes me as perplexing for many reasons, not the least of which is that so much of radio is neither live nor local. Yet that doesn't make it less popular or effective. Watch as Chad describes: The importance of content in any digital play, and how integrating that content into the everyday lives of consumers is the best way to move them (not "speaking at them" as ads do). His groundbreaking digital platform work for radio's Jim Rome, and how "as Big Radio got a … [Read more...]

What Radio can learn from ABC TV

A few days ago ABC announced that they would begin live streaming content in two major markets with more to follow on a new app called WatchABC. NPR reports: ABC and other networks have long allowed you to watch their prime-time shows online after they air on TV, but ABC is the first broadcast over-the-air network to let you watch their live feed — including local news, daytime talk shows and prime-time dramas. Over the next few months, it will expand to cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago. Eventually, ABC expects most of its affiliates will be onboard. Is it the … [Read more...]
