One of the great pleasures of this job at this time in this industry is being near ground zero when an entrepreneur sees the world in a new way and brings that new world to life. I am proud to have done a tiny bit of work with a great new startup called AGOGO. But what is AGOGO and why should you care?
Well, for starters, your content is in it.
But not just yours.
Podcast content too. But more than that: Content that is not audio is made audio. And your music (through Rdio or Spotify) is integrated with content that relates to your music to create a seamless and frictionless listening experience here, there, and on the go.
Quality content from all over is curated according to your interests, irrespective of the channels or “silos” they are traditionally presented in or on.
Anyone who has been following this blog for a while knows that I have forever been preaching a larger tapestry for audio which is neither linear nor bound by any one channel of distribution. AGOGO finally brings that to life. It is well beyond the familiar aggregators of radio stations and podcasts. And unlike your station app, it’s built with the consumer – not a broadcast tower – in mind.
I don’t want to over-hype this. To be sure, it’s not perfect. Version 1 never is. More stuff is coming. But download it at the app store and give it a try. You will instantly “get” the concept as you are freed from the chains we like to bind our audiences to.
If ever you thought you were in the distribution business rather than the content one, this should help change your mind.
It’s so much more than radio – which is what I am and what you should be, too.
