The Internet in your BMW

BmwAvailable in Europe soon. Can the US be far behind?

And no, it doesn’t require WiFi or WiMax.

Click here for the video that explains it all.

As CNet’s Brian Cooley says, BMW is “the first car company to embrace a factory-optional Internet connection.”

As one correspondent noted to me, imagine if BMW owners could have their own branded internet radio station with format choices. BMW rocks, Jazz on BMW, BMW plays the classics.

When your brand is BMW you certainly don’t need Clear Channel.

Not unless you want Ryan Seacrest, and Clear Channel is the only way to get him.

  • They recently announced integration with IOS, and I can not wait to mess with that.
  • QUOTE: "I would get internet in my car just for the music in a heartbeat if it were available here, I'm listening to internet radio right now as I type this."
    Me too...
  • Obsolete?? Nope. Not at all. Just beginning as I see it. If the generation wants it for free, we'll give it to them. Free. Internet radio can thrive by selling advertising -with pictures, video and a whole lot more. And the GREAT spots will work, while the crappy ones won't. Driving my BMW -I'll want to know which gasoline will clean my valves. My Internet connection can tell me that because it will know it's me in my Bimmer. However, the current manual manipulation (I-drive scrolling thru the letters) MUST be replaced by voice recognition. Let me shout out "HEAR-TWO-DOT-COM"..and leave it at that.

Funny thing about all of this:
I was speaking to college kids, who are of the generation that wants it all for free.
These students find themselves caught in the middle: Wanting music and media for free, and also wanting to be employed in the music and media businesses.
Hmmm. So they're being trained to work in industries that their generation is basically making obsolete.
