WiFi Radio: The Shape of mp3 Players to Come

Sansa_2

One of the first WiFi mp3 players, the Sansa Connect – coming in March.

That’s right. WiFi. As in, radio without a radio.

As tech-hound C|Net, which voted it one of the “Best of CES” puts it….

Noticeably absent is … an FM tuner, though I suppose SanDisk figured you could do without the latter given that you get access to Internet radio? That’s right, Internet radio. Sweet. Where do I sign up?

Still, it’s a little hazy as to whether or not that Internet radio will be free. And that makes a big difference.

Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, the zeal for this product – and the many which will follow in its category – reflects the pent up demand that will certainly materialize as sales, making this product and those like it “hits.”

So this device will allow you to download music? Yet XM is being sued for a similar device? And HD radio can’t do this?

I read some where, that universal and sony have started to tag content to restrict wifi access,on the zune device network..
its a consumer based media to be made available,I think thats the labels intent for its collective artist.
but they will let spiralfrog run it for a share of ad revenue
and now emi does this streaming deal in china, EMI also will work with Baidu to “explore advertising-supporting music download services that will be free of charge for all users,” the Shanghai Daily reported.
but lets sue some of our paying partners satrad and force hd radio into the same group, while we give it away on a global basis..
Im sort of confused by the labels overall message here.
unless radios, old partners want this sector of the chain killed off completely..??
