JACK FM Format approaches the “Tipping Point”

Now that both Dallas and LA have “JACK FM” stations (that’s the incredibly diverse format that “plays what we want”) it should be clear to the casual industry observer that the format is rapidly approaching the “tipping point.”

That’s the point at which it starts popping up in lots and lots of markets at once.

We’re only days away from at least one more JACK in a top market and just today I was sent a copy of the front page (FRONT page) article in the Wall Street Journal on Radio in general and that format in particular.

About a year ago I boldly predicted that by now there would be a JACK-type station in every major market.

I was wrong.

But only about the timing.

I think that FM format needs personality. JACK is not the answer. Bring back what worked! The music mix can help a little but it is the personality that makes FM these days.

I think that while the "FOOLS" at "INFINITY BROADCASTING" have their collective heads up their BUTTS, they might want to look around and see if there are any Medical issues that need attention!

JACK stinks. We want Steve Rouse and all the rest back. Anyone know what those guys are doing? Hopefully, they are banding together to start their own radio station and blow JACK-&*% out of Baltimore.

Although I have not heard anything official on this, I believe Steve Rouse will be at the Bowie Baysox game on 7/4 and they will be breaking the whoopee cushion record again. If you support Steve, please go to the game and cheer him on!
